How to Get There

 

Williams Grove is located on the Avenue of the Giants off Highway 101 in Northern California. It is:

• 1/2 mile North of the small town of Myers Flat, CA
• 55 miles South of Arcata, CA
• 600 miles North of Los Angeles, CA
• 280 miles South of Roseburg, OR
• 360 miles North of Groveland, CA
• 1200 miles West of Belgrade, MT

I can send you exact directions from your house if you e-mail me with your street address, but it isn't really too complicated. Once you get on the 101 you stay there until Exit 656 for Myers Flat.

 

• From the south: From Highway 101, take the Myers Flat exit. At the intersection with the Avenue of the Giants, turn right. Drive through the town and continue on the Avenue of the Giants 1.5 miles to Williams Grove Day Use and Group Camp on the left.
  • Distance from San Francisco: 228 miles

From the north: From Highway 101, take the Weott exit. Turn right at the intersection at the bottom of the offramp. Drive all the way through town to the end of this road. It will end at the intersection with the Avenue of the Giants. Turn left and drive 5.5 miles on the Avenue of the Giants to Williams Grove Day Use and Group Camp on the right.

Where am I sleeping?

Camping at Williams Grove

Williams Grove Group Camp "A" (which we will be reserving) provides camping for up to 60 people. Camping fees are covered for our guests :) There is parking for a limited number of RV's, maximum length 33 ft, and trailers up to 24 ft. When you RSVP please include your intent to bring your camper. Sorry! RV camping at WIlliams Grove is full!

Williams Grove has picnic tables, fire rings, BBQ's, potable water and flushing toilets in the bathrooms (yay!)

However there is NO electricity, RV hookups, showers, laundry facilities. The use of generators is allowed in the campground from 10:00am-8:00pm.

The nearby Burlington Campground (~1 mile north) provides hot coin-operated showers for our guests.

There are RV Dump facilities at the Giant Redwoods RV & Camp (~6 miles south) for $20

RV Camping

If you would prefer to camp in your RV with full hookups, the closest place is the Giant Redwoods RV & Camp, about 6 miles south in the town of Myers Flat. They have many more amenities, including full hookups, bathrooms, showers, laundry and a store. They do also have tent camping if you would prefer to be somewhere with more amenities. However, we do not have any sites reserved here, if you would like to do so they will be at your own expense and don't wait too long to reserve yourself a spot!


Hotels
If camping is not your cup-of-tea at all, there are a few hotel options for you. There is a 10-room Bed & Breakfast in Myers Flat called the Myers Country Inn but it is $$$. Check out the website or call 1-800-500-6464 to make a reservation.

A more affordable option is a little bit farther away, in the town of Garberville about 20 miles South on Highway 101. The Best Western Humboldt House Inn has a pool, Internet, full hot breakfast and is pet friendly.

Once again, we are only covering reservations and costs for camping at Williams Grove, so if you would like to stay elsewhere please make your reservations early, we would hate to miss you at our special day :(


Day Use Only
If you can't or don't care to spend the weekend with us, Williams Grove is also designed for day use so you can join us just for the wedding day. There is ample parking in the day use section, and we would rather have you come for one day than not at all!

What Should I Bring?

 

Depending on where you decide to stay or camp, you're needs will be slightly different, but I've made a list of the basics that you will need if you decide to camp with us at Williams Grove.

 

 

Clothes

We're expecting warm summertime weather, but sometimes Humboldt County Weather can be a little unpredictable. Layers are always a good bet as it tends to cool down in the evenings. I would recommend mostly shorts and tee-shirts for the days, but definitely bring a couple pairs of pants and a sweatshirt or light jacket for evenings and mornings. Pack your bathing suit, as the camp is located right on the Eel River. Sometimes they have issues with Blue-Green Algae, but we'll keep abreast of that as it gets further into summer. As for the wedding ceremony itself, there's no specific dress code, everything is very casual :) Just remember, you'll be in our pictures and memories that way forever, so at least, I don't know... put on a shirt or something lol :)


Camping Gear
I guess this varies on if you chose to tent-camp or RV-camp, but the most important thing is that there is no electricity in the campground, so remember to bring flashlights, lanterns and extra batteries. Bring warm sleeping bags and ice chests for your perishables. Also bring sunscreen and bug spray, just in case there are mosquitoes.


Food
We will be providing food for some meals; 2 dinners, 2 brunches and an ice chest of sandwich fixin's for do-it-yourself lunches. The rest of the meals are up to you, unless someone decides that they want to be responsible for another group meal. There are also a few places to eat and buy groceries close-by.
